Introduction: Hola Grado 4, the countdown is on to the end of the year - WOW! Time has flown by!  On Tuesdays & Wednesdays we will have some small group time. You can find your time and group on Google Classroom. Please make sure to come to your Google Meet if you cannot make it please join another group. ** This week there are NO Google Meets on Friday because of the Dalhousie Drive-By from 10am-11am. We hope to see you there!  Every week we will have material for you to go through as well as assignments. You will be able to find them all on Google Classroom. Remember that you need to be respectful and follow the digital citizenship expectations!  Please go through the Google Presentation entitled “Grade 4 Weekly Schedule” You will notice on the “stream” that there is very little you have to go through your classes for the information! Remember that the work should take approximately 5 hours each week. When you are done with the assignments and you know you have done a good job, you can continue to read on Raz-Kids, and do Math Prodigy for extra practice!

Math: This week we are continuing with Decimals. 1. Review the videos called "How to add decimals" and "How to subtract decimals". 2. Then, you can listen to the song "Adding and Subtracting Decimals Song". 3. Ask your teacher if you don't understand something (post a comment or send an email). We are here to help you!  4. When you have finished, there is a file called "How much is your name worth?". It shows a dollar value for each letter of the alphabet. In your Math notebook, calculate how much your name (first and last name) is worth by adding the decimal values.  5. When you have finished calculating the total value of your name, take a picture of your work, upload it to the Classroom, and click "Turn in".

English Language Arts: Activity 1: OPTIONAL this week - Please write a journal entry about your week. Include what you have been doing, what you have been learning, what you have been feeling, what you have been reading. In other words explain what it is like to be a grade 4 student during the Covid crisis. Activity 2: This week we will be reading the Epilogue from "Esperanza Rising". 1. This week you need to listen to The Epilogue 2. Then, there are some optional activities you can complete from Esperanza Rising. Activity 3: Please go over the slides called "Letter to a future Grade 4 student". These slides explain the expectations for two letters that you need to start writing this week. You can write the letters in Google Docs or in your English notebook. First, you will write a letter to a future Grade 4 student, describing what Grade 4 is like. Second, you will write a letter to your Grade 5 teacher, telling them a bit about yourself. You will have two weeks to work on these letters, they are due on June 26.

Spanish Language Arts: This week you do NOT have to write in your Spanish journal.  1. Complete the Google Form about "Esperanza Rising" for your classroom teacher. Review the Googles Slides called "Introduction to Decimals". 2. There is nothing to hand in from reviewing these slides. There are many practice activities, try them in your notebook. There are also videos to help you to understand decimals, watch them! 3. Ask your teacher if you don't understand something (post a comment or send an email). 4. When you have finished, there is a Google Slides called "Read and Write Decimals to Hundredths". You have your own copy to practice on.  5. When you have finished all of this for the week, click "Turn in" on the assignment in the classroom so your teacher knows you have finished Math for the week.

In other words explain what it is like to be a grade 4 student during the Covid crisis. Post 2: This week we will be reading the final two chapters of "Esperanza Rising". 1. This week you need to listen to Los Duraznos and Las Uvas. 2. Review the exemplar (to what you should be doing) for the writing journal prompt. Answer the journal prompt in your English journal Journal Prompt: Do you think Esperanza's life was better when she lived in Mexico or does she have a better life now in California? Give MANY (5+) examples from the text to support your answer.

Spanish Language Arts: This week you do NOT have to write in your Spanish journal.  1. In your presentation "Los personajes de la novela Esperanza Renace," add any NEW information you know about the characters after listening to the final two chapters. This is your final week to edit and revise your work. You need to turn your work in when you are finished.  Next week you will be discussing how you think the characters changed in Spanish with your teachers in the small group meet.

Review the video and Google Slides "1-7 de junio: Graphing in Real Life". In the video, Srta. Pitre explains the slides and the task for you.  3. Decide on your TWO topics and you will discuss what you have decided with your homeroom teacher in your small group meeting. Come prepared! 4. After collecting your data, you need to show it in a chart/table, then represent it in a bar graph. Finally you need to write three (3) statements about your findings.  5. You can complete this work online (in a Google Doc or Google Slides) or in your Math journal.

This week you need to listen to  Los Aguacates and Los Esparragos 2. Review the exemplar (to what you should be doing) for the writing journal prompt. Answer the journal prompt in your English journal Journal Prompt: If you were Esperanza, would you have helped Marta when you saw her hiding, or would you have told the police? Remember, if Esperanza is found helping Marta, she would be arrested too. Please provide at least three reasons for your answer.

You do not need to hand this in.  2.              When you have finished reviewing the Slides, open the Google Doc called: “Tarea: Data and Graphs”. There are three questions (and one optional bonus) for you to complete in your Math notebook. When you are finished, take a picture, and upload the files to the Classroom and click “Turn in”.   3.              THINK ABOUT for next week: A topic you would like to gather information about to make your own graphs. This could be a question to ask friends or family members, or a topic you would like to research or collect information for. Some examples could be: a.              Surveying your family and friends about their favourite ice cream flavour is  b.              Collecting information about all the socks that there are in your house c.              Researching information on how many people speak First Nation language in Alberta

Answer the journal prompt in your English journal Journal Prompt: As Esperanza leaves the hospital at the end of this chapter, she tells her mother, “Don’t worry. I will take care of everything. I will be La Patrona for the family now.”  Describe how Esperanza has changed since the day her father died.

Math: Please review all slides over the week. The topics you will see are: congruency, symmetry, and prisms. The activities in the slides are optional for you to complete or take notes in your Math journal. Your assignment is the final slide. Your assignment this week is to look for examples of rectangular and triangular prisms in real life. This activity is similar to fractions in real life that you completed. Be creative!

We will be listening/reading the novel “Esperanza Rising by Pam Ryan Muñoz. This week Please review the slides 30-38 (Las Guayabas & Los Melones) You will be responding to the following prompt in your online Journal: There are a few times in this chapter where Esperanza is told that she is now a poor peasant. Provide evidence from the text (minimum 2) that shows Esperanza is having a difficult time accepting this fact. Remember to write in paragraph form with details and transition words.

Spanish Language Arts: As we continue reading the novel Esperanza Rising, you will be using this presentation to write about the characters, what they look like and their personalities. When you read the novel, pay attention to how the author describes the characters, what they look like and their relation to each other (e.g. family, friends, workers, etc.). As the story develops, the author will explain how the characters' actions and thoughts affect each other. By the end of the story, you will also notice how the characters change their personality and character. The task: As you read the novel, write about the characters, what they look like and their personalities in Spanish. If you have typed a full slide about one character and you need more space, you need to create a new slide below that one. Every week, when you finish adding new information to your presentation, you need to click on "turn in" so your teacher can see your work. Some weeks you will have more information about certain characters, and some weeks you won't get any additional information about the characters. This week you may want to think about Papa, Mama, Esperanza, Alfonso, Hortensia, Miguel. This is an ONGOING project so you will not finish this in one sitting! There is NO diario de Español this week
